Wednesday, March 13We have been working on a Compare/Contrast essay for the last 2 weeks. We have gone through this process step by step, and the students should be ready today with a rough draft on google classroom.
The pink paper is the students “ticket out of class” today, so remind them often to stay on task, and that they will be handing that paper in when they leave class. When they have finished their self-edit, they should make any necessary changes to their essay. I do not want them to submit yet. I will have them do one more edit before they submit their essay. Thursday, March 14 Happy Pie DayThis day is for revisions. Keep in mind all that we have discussed for the past week on how to write a great compare contrast essay: 6 Steps for Great Compare and Contrast Essays 1. Carefully consider the two things (characters) you're being asked to write about. 2. Make a list of the key similarities and differences. Double Bubble Map 3. Isolate the most important points. These will be your central ideas. 4. Make a tree map that will form the skeleton of your essay. 5. Fill in textual details as you write your essay. 6. Edit! Go over the rubric that will be used to grade your essay. Double check to be sure you have all the parts! Color code your essay in Google classroom: Highlight your 4 quotes in yellow. Underline your transitions both between paragraphs and internal. Highlight in pink the Title of the book and the author. Highlight in green your "so what?" statement.
